Why We Workout

Before we begin posting material on ways to change your body through exercise and healthy meal options, we thought it would be important to first discuss WHY we endorse this lifestyle. Often times, the main reason people are not successful when trying to make a lifestyle change towards being fit and healthy is because they are setting the wrong goals. Most of the newcomers to the gym are there because they want to have a sculpted 8 pack or round butt like the fitness models they see on social media. However, what these people don’t understand is that if you only focus on the visual results of the gym, you are robbing yourself of some of the other real benefits.
At the end of the day, it is important to see your gains and I’m not taking anything away from that. We will be contributing workouts and dieting tips that will help you see the results you deserve if you are working hard. However, we also want people to understand that the gym gives you so much more. Through exercise and dieting a person is able to develop a new level of diligence and perseverance. People who are committed to this lifestyle understand that things like “being tired” that day, or “not feeling great” or even being “depressed” or “frustrated” are not good reasons to miss the gym. This mindset does not come easy, but once it is developed through hard work, it extends to every aspect of your life outside of fitness. You will begin holding yourself more accountable in work, school and relationships, just as you do in the gym, ultimately changing who you are as a person and worker.

Once a person has experienced this transformation and they have a better understanding of themselves as a worker, they also see improvements in their ability to set and meet goals. A lifestyle transformation towards being fit and healthy is more of a marathon than a sprint. People who have drastic changes to make often struggle because they do not understand how long and hard of a journey it is to change yourself as a person. This leads to them setting incorrect timelines which can be extremely discouraging. Through fitness and dieting, a person learns to set realistic goals that are modest and not rushed and through that success they gain momentum towards achieving larger goals. This skill set is essential to success in the gym but also can be applied professionally or as a student.

The gym will also help a person sleep more soundly, feel more confidently due to their ability to keep their own word to themselves and due to the improvements of their physical appearance. As a result, a fit and healthy person often has a more positive outlook on life and their potential. It is common to see someone who has lost a significant amount of weight or gained a significant amount of muscle to almost transform their personality as well. They may not find humor at the expense of others as they once did, they may not be as defensive as they once were and they may not be as filled with self-doubt as they once were which overall leads to a generally happier person. In my opinion, the gym is one of the best medicines for stress or depression because of these “side effects”.
Through this blog we will be contributing material that should motivate and direct you towards being healthier. We ask that you take the time to commit and buy in so you can truly reap ALL of the benefits this lifestyle and blog will be promoting.
